Omnicron Raid

Having stepped away from the raid on Omnicron the team attempted quite some time ago - the original company who hired them turned to multiple other teams to get the job done.  They all failed and consequently - CORP-X found themselves in the unfavorable position of having to increase the offered compensation for the job to 100K.

At this level it was enough to regain the team’s interest to risk the infiltration run once again.

---------------- Or… not. ----------------------

Sam mysteriously wakes up face down and hungover in a cold concrete basement somewhere and doesn’t know how she got there.  There are three other people unconscious in the room with her.

Bishop wakes up next.  He discovers he is a woman. After fondling himself (to determine if it’s real or virtual...of course) he speaks with Sam and identifies himself as ‘Bishop’ where the two start to recognize each other, despite their looks.

The Doc wakes up next and doesn’t take it as well as the others.  He fails a vigor test and passes out again - having visions humanoid robots chasing him.

Joe wakes up next to Bishop leaning over him and also reacts poorly and is reluctant to believe that Bishop is ‘Bishop’.

Doc wakes up again, tries to remember the last thing that happened to him - see some images that reminds him of his time in the lab when they spliced his genes, and becomes suspicious of the others, especially when Bishop tells him he is ‘Bishop’ and identifies him as ‘Doc’.  In trying to access his TAP - Doc causes himself to pass out again.

Bishop begins to investigate the room and in the corner finds a bunch oil drums in the corner and among them are a dead man sitting in a chair.  He’s been stabbed in the back of the neck and there is a bloody knife on the floor near him.  The knife has a strange symbol on the pommel.

Investigating, Bishop finds a wallet with what he assumes is information about the dead man.

Jack Smith, 14 Beacon Street - there is a little bit of money in the wallet.

Bishop does some ‘odd hacking’ that identified the symbol on the knife pommel as the Society of ‘Free Thought’

Sam checks the door and finds it solidly locked.  Eventually Doc gets on board and comes to realize who the rest of the people actually are.  the Doc investigates the body and finds out the victim was not murdered here nor , did he suspect, by the knife that was left there.

Sam was able pick a lock on a desk in the room in which she found newspaper clippings saying Jack Smith went missing.

Then the phone on the desk rang and a female voice said the police are coming before hanging up.

Doc and Joe discovered they shared an unusual psychic link in which they could not only hear each other thoughts, but they could experience all the other’s senses as well.

The team continued to ponder the situation when the phone rang again and a voice once again warned that the police would be there in less than a minute.

Doc blew out a window (which shattered with a much larger blast than he’d expected) and levitated up to it to look out on the street.  About that time, the police did show up.  Bishop ran out behind them through the previously locked door the police had come through and when one of the cops tried to follow him, slammed the door in his face hard enough to stun him.

Bishop found himself in a storeroom where he grabbed a broom and re entered the basement, swinging it threateningly.

Shortly after that, Doc was able to fling one of the cops telekinetically, into another, stunning them both and Bishop tried to convince the third cop that he was a witch and had done it while waving his broom.

The cop was unfooled and drew his sidearm (a non-victorian six-shooter) to shoot at the doc, but Sam interrupted him with a fast attack and stunned him.

Joe then let loose a fear blast (that was also more powerful than expected) that enveloped Sam as well, but fortunately she resisted.  The cop, not so much.  The officer surrendered and the other two fell unconscious.

The team subdued the officers and stuffed them in the oil barrels.  They then took the body with them and made it appear he’d just passed out from drinking and they were ‘helping him’ back to his apartment.

The team discovered that there were two more officers stationed in front of the dead man’s apartment and they appeared to be ‘elite’ guards.

The Doc and Joe discovered they could also share abilities across their psychic link.  Together they were able to extend their link to Bishop and Sam as well and all of them could then share - HAD to share all thoughts.. and skills, to some extent.  Though Bishop and Sam couldn’t replicate actual psionic abilities through it.  The upside is everyone shares everything mentally, the downside - everyone shares everything - there are no filters in thoughts.

Sam was able to sneak into the back of the apartment and found many things out of place, like a refrigerator and canned food, but it was roughly 2 years old and most of the apartment was covered in dust.  She also found a flyer advertising the Society of Free thought with notes in the margins that implied that Jack Smith was investigating them.

Rescue Mission

Doc Gray went to a local medical facility to have them analyze the IV fluid (from last session), but they were not very competent and couldn't find anything unusual in the fluid. (Cost $500)

He went for a second Opinion to another local street dock (Dr. Sheen) who was able to identify a virus in the fluid, but it was a dead virus. (Cost $500)  The Doc wanted to get a closer look at the virus itself to see if there were any indications of man-made elements to it but Dr. Sheen didn’t have the equipment to do this.

Dr. Sheen gave Doc Gray instructions for how to analyze the fluid better if he was able to acquire the right high end equipment - Medicinal Grade Optical Image Resonator

Doc (ie Sam) was able to locate a device at the University of Chicago.

Doc heads to the the local Black Mall and spends another $600 on 3 stun patches.

Doc called the University and got in a tour for aspiring med students masquerading as Sam’s Father.  The tour goes through the campus’ high tech medical facility where Doc and Sam were able to ‘case’ the lab.

Doc and Sam go home and get Bishop to make them some fake IDs.  Bishop does this very well (31) and creates them ID’s a visiting professors.  The two are able to

Synthetic organism.  Dormant - not dead.  Same DNA markers as organisms found on debris on Mars as well as on the Rings of Saturn.

The virus did react to blood - with at least some of the sample activating from the dormant state, but the virus quickly died..

The IV fluid was just normal saline solution.  Doc began to wonder if the virus only activated in un-altered human blood.  Doc sent Sam out to pick a fight and ‘collect’ a sample.  Sam went to a local bar where she managed to start a fight with some frat boys (human) and collect some blood.

Using this sample, the Doc saw a very different reaction.  The virus attacked red blood cells and assimilates the functions of the cell it attacks, then it creates a copy of the new version of itself.  Because the virus mimics the red blood cells, the white blood cells ignore it.  The white blood cells attacked (and destroyed) a small number of the virus cells until they mimicked the red blood cells.

Doc made a copy of the data and did a surface delete of all the work they did.

Doc and Sam went back to Grath Labs to see if it was still running - it was with full security.
Doc checked in with the shelter he dropped Skippy of at a week ago and found out Skippy died a few days after he dropped him off.  Doc made sure the Skippy was cremated and destroyed the virus.

While trying to figure out what to do next, Doc was contacted by Keiki (KEY-kay) Azaruke (oz-uh-RUE-kay).  He wanted to hire Doc and Sam on behalf of Ark Nova (Brazilian Environmental charity) to rescue some rare monitor lizards from the ujelang atoll before a hurricane sweeps through the area.

They accepted the job and flew to Japan to speak with ‘Professor Flor’.  She recommended using a lasso pole to collect the creatures.  She recommended another method was to have one person distract them while a second person grabs them by the tail.

Professor Flor explained the storm is due to hit the Atol in 12 hours (it was 5am at the time).

After doing the math, it became obvious that the first plan left them in the middle of the ocean on a hovercraft with a hurricane.  So they changed the plan and flew straight to the island without registering a flight plan (to avoid customs) and then parachuted off at the Atoll.

Once they arrived, they were surprised to learn there were 30 villagers living on the island.  Mabelang was their leader.  Doc got a hold of Arkanova reps and they agreed to send two extra hovercraft (3 total - seats 12 each).  They would arrive in 7 hours (two hours before the hurricane arrived).

Sam gathered up the villagers and had them assemble at the shore where the boats were to land.  Doc and the professor went lizard hunting.  Doc came back with a female.  The Professor couldn't catch one.

The next hunt had three groups hunt - Doc, Sam and Mabelang, and Professor Flor.  Sam came back with one male.

The third hunt produced one more male and one more female.

The boats arrived with three hours to spare, but there were only two, due to problems at the dock.  After dividing up the weight limit across both the boats and tranqing three of the lizards (with the stun patches he got earlier for the college guards that he didn’t need) so only one of the cages were needed.  They rescued a total of 2 males and 2 females and all the villagers.

Payment for the job was $5000 each plus $2000 for each female and $1000 for each female.  The job earned them a total of $8000 each.

Grey Earth #2: Hell's Fury

Joe and Job protected a local priest when a gang that threatened to burn the cathedral down followed through on their threat.  The priest was harmed but survived.  The cathedral was burned some but not burned down.  The leader of the Hell's Fury gang, Tores, was captured and 'interrogated' by Joe.

They found out some interesting information...

While Sam was recovering from the last of her injuries from the gang fight in the Doc's apartment, Doc got a visit by a regular 'patient' - a hypochondriac squatter by the name of 'Skippy' who constantly came to see Doc Gray complaining of some ailment or another. Doc usually gave him some 'placebo' treatment and sent him on his way as quickly as possible since Skippy, while harmless, could be a bit irritating and tended to smell quite bad.

This time though, after a second look, it appeared Skippy had some kind of genuine malady, the symptoms of which (ruptured capillaries in the eyes, discolored blood in the veins, skin irritation and localized epidural rotting akin to leprosy) were unlike anything he'd treated before. The Doc left Skippy with the 'Nurse' (Sam) while he ran some tests on a blood sample and then told Skippy to go 'home' (under the bridge 3 blocks away) until the reports came back on the blood the next morning. Skippy said when he came back in the morning, that he wanted the 'nurse' to make him pancakes. The 'nurse' promptly indicated that would NOT be happening, but Skippy kept prattling on about pancakes, but eventually left.

Skippy never showed up the next morning and when Doc went to check on him his symptoms had gotten worse and Skippy was experiencing mood swings as well, becoming almost violent and much more aggressive and belligerent. The Doc managed to get him checked in a a local shelter where he'd done some volunteer work before and they owed him a favor.

The lab results indicated there was an 'unclassified' virus of unknown origins in Skippy's blood. After speaking with Skippy about it - the Doc found out that Skippy had signed up for a 'clinical trial' with a 'Ms Smith' and been injected with something a number of days earlier, but he had 'gotten away' somehow.

Sam and the Doc began to research this and with the help of a little remote favor on the side from Bishop, they discovered that 'Ms Smith' was a Ms Madeleine (Maddie) Smith, originally a farm-girl from Idaho, but after surviving a coma and a near-death experience during the Surge, had now transformed herself into a almost too-good-to-be-real blond bombshell who does PR for small to mid-sized corporations and executives.

Apparently Ms Smith has landed a job as the public face of Grath Labs - a small business that's only been around a year or so and supposedly is dedicated to studying unknown viruses that emerged as a result of the Surge. Ms Smith has been targeting areas of town known to have high concentrations of vagrants and squatters where she pitches an opportunity to make 1000 credits by participating in a simple clinical trial.

She has almost unreal and unnatural persuasions skills and uses them to convince people to blindly agree to this trial. She is accompanied at all times by two large muscular hybrids (rhino or elephant, perhaps?) and a smaller stoic man who stands silently in the background.

The Doc and Sam decide that the best way to find out more about the 'clinical trials' is to volunteer themselves, depending on Doc's psionic healing abilities to neutralize any virus they might be injected with. The Doc hires Sam ($200/day +$500 combat bonus and... as always - 'free medical') to help him.

After studying the pattern of the previous locations Ms Smith has showed up, they make an educated guess as to where she might 'recruit' from next and five days later, manage to get accepted for the trials - though only barely because of their hybridization (apparently they are mainly looking for 'normal humans'). Ms Smith seemed particularly interested in the nature of the Doc's hybridization and didn't seem to really believe that he was a 'Black Mamba' hybrid as he claimed.

Initially five squatters (including the Doc and Sam) signed up, but the Doc managed to make two of the squatters sick enough that they were not able to go the next day (effectively saving their lives) leaving Doc, Sam, and a third vagrant affectionately named 'Dick'. The next morning a shuttle picked the three of them up and took them to Grath Labs which was located in a very run-down part of town. The area around the lab was MUCH higher security than you'd expect a start-up lab only a year old to have or even be able to afford. There was a full Ravenlock security team, complete with a couple drones patrolling the perimeter of the building and there was fencing with razor wire all around it as well.

The three 'volunteers' were ushered into the building into a medical looking 'lobby' area and then assigned rooms where they would wait to receive an IV of unknown fluids. Ms Smith assured everyone it was only for hydration and to keep them comfortable during the procedure.

The Doc and Sam managed to convince Ms Smith and the orderlies (who looked like stoic arians) that they were a 'couple' and wanted to be together during the process. Ms Smith agreed and found it 'sweet' that they would do this together. The reason, though was so that the Doc could maintain touch on Sam as she received the IV fluids (to psionically heal her) since he suspected that was how they were delivering the virus. Doc healed himself also when the IV was administered to him.

This left both of them alert when they were expected to be unconscious. The two of them faked unconsciousness as they were carried potato-sack style on the shoulders of the two large hybrids to a second location in the building. This area was MUCH different than the front of the building and more closely resembled a low-tech medieval dungeon or insane asylum with many cells off a central hallway, each locked with a heavy metal door. Behind these doors could be heard many sounds ranging for people coherently crying out for help to more guttural, feral and sometimes maniacal growls and roars.

Just before the two were deposited in their own cells, they managed to overwhelm the guards by catching them by surprise. The dragged the bodies of the guards into the cells originally meant for Doc and Sam and then locked the doors with keys they recovered from the guards and ran to the far end of the hall. There they found a large functional freight elevator and took it up to the second floor. The second floor of the building looks like it was once used for record storage and administrative functions, but now was dark, dust, and abandoned as if it had not been touched since the company acquired it from the previous owners over a year ago.

Making their way to the opposite side of the floor, Doc and Sam found a stairwell near the non-functional elevator and went back down to the first floor. The door leading out onto the property from the stair well on the first floor did not look like it was used much and emptied out into an area of the facility not often patrolled by the security team. After dashing back into the main lobby and patient room to grab one of the IV fluid bags for testing, the two of them ran out the back stairwell door and managed to cross the lot and squeeze through a hole in the fence before being noticed.

Omnicron Project: Part Two

Doc Grey, Bishop and Sam got caught in an attack on a Malmart Quick Shop via the White Skulls gangers led by one of the Tetsubo sims.  Bishop and Sam were wounded severely and Doc Grey was able to stabilize them.  The team then began more investigations into the Omnicron Project and how they might gather more information on Omnicron LTD.
