Having stepped away from the raid on Omnicron the team attempted quite some time ago - the original company who hired them turned to multiple other teams to get the job done. They all failed and consequently - CORP-X found themselves in the unfavorable position of having to increase the offered compensation for the job to 100K.
At this level it was enough to regain the team’s interest to risk the infiltration run once again.
---------------- Or… not. ----------------------
Sam mysteriously wakes up face down and hungover in a cold concrete basement somewhere and doesn’t know how she got there. There are three other people unconscious in the room with her.
Bishop wakes up next. He discovers he is a woman. After fondling himself (to determine if it’s real or virtual...of course) he speaks with Sam and identifies himself as ‘Bishop’ where the two start to recognize each other, despite their looks.
The Doc wakes up next and doesn’t take it as well as the others. He fails a vigor test and passes out again - having visions humanoid robots chasing him.
Joe wakes up next to Bishop leaning over him and also reacts poorly and is reluctant to believe that Bishop is ‘Bishop’.
Doc wakes up again, tries to remember the last thing that happened to him - see some images that reminds him of his time in the lab when they spliced his genes, and becomes suspicious of the others, especially when Bishop tells him he is ‘Bishop’ and identifies him as ‘Doc’. In trying to access his TAP - Doc causes himself to pass out again.
Bishop begins to investigate the room and in the corner finds a bunch oil drums in the corner and among them are a dead man sitting in a chair. He’s been stabbed in the back of the neck and there is a bloody knife on the floor near him. The knife has a strange symbol on the pommel.
Investigating, Bishop finds a wallet with what he assumes is information about the dead man.
Jack Smith, 14 Beacon Street - there is a little bit of money in the wallet.
Bishop does some ‘odd hacking’ that identified the symbol on the knife pommel as the Society of ‘Free Thought’
Sam checks the door and finds it solidly locked. Eventually Doc gets on board and comes to realize who the rest of the people actually are. the Doc investigates the body and finds out the victim was not murdered here nor , did he suspect, by the knife that was left there.
Sam was able pick a lock on a desk in the room in which she found newspaper clippings saying Jack Smith went missing.
Then the phone on the desk rang and a female voice said the police are coming before hanging up.
Doc and Joe discovered they shared an unusual psychic link in which they could not only hear each other thoughts, but they could experience all the other’s senses as well.
The team continued to ponder the situation when the phone rang again and a voice once again warned that the police would be there in less than a minute.
Doc blew out a window (which shattered with a much larger blast than he’d expected) and levitated up to it to look out on the street. About that time, the police did show up. Bishop ran out behind them through the previously locked door the police had come through and when one of the cops tried to follow him, slammed the door in his face hard enough to stun him.
Bishop found himself in a storeroom where he grabbed a broom and re entered the basement, swinging it threateningly.
Shortly after that, Doc was able to fling one of the cops telekinetically, into another, stunning them both and Bishop tried to convince the third cop that he was a witch and had done it while waving his broom.
The cop was unfooled and drew his sidearm (a non-victorian six-shooter) to shoot at the doc, but Sam interrupted him with a fast attack and stunned him.
Joe then let loose a fear blast (that was also more powerful than expected) that enveloped Sam as well, but fortunately she resisted. The cop, not so much. The officer surrendered and the other two fell unconscious.
The team subdued the officers and stuffed them in the oil barrels. They then took the body with them and made it appear he’d just passed out from drinking and they were ‘helping him’ back to his apartment.
The team discovered that there were two more officers stationed in front of the dead man’s apartment and they appeared to be ‘elite’ guards.
The Doc and Joe discovered they could also share abilities across their psychic link. Together they were able to extend their link to Bishop and Sam as well and all of them could then share - HAD to share all thoughts.. and skills, to some extent. Though Bishop and Sam couldn’t replicate actual psionic abilities through it. The upside is everyone shares everything mentally, the downside - everyone shares everything - there are no filters in thoughts.
Sam was able to sneak into the back of the apartment and found many things out of place, like a refrigerator and canned food, but it was roughly 2 years old and most of the apartment was covered in dust. She also found a flyer advertising the Society of Free thought with notes in the margins that implied that Jack Smith was investigating them.
